Flights Resume at Edinburgh Airport After Substantial Air Traffic Control Outage
Air travel have restarted at Edinburgh Airport following a significant ATC system failure brought the international hub to a standstill.
All incoming and outgoing flights were halted after an technical fault that was reported at approximately 08:30.
A number of travelers were left waiting in jets at the stand as the outage continued.
Services Recommence with Residual Impact
A statement indicated at 10:40 that flights had resumed, and expressed gratitude to passengers for their "cooperation and patience".
However, ongoing issues are expected to continue throughout the day. Services bound for London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been axed, with many others facing hold-ups.
An airport representative had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.
"Travelers are urged to check directly with their airline for the most up-to-date details on their individual travel plans," officials reiterated.
Source of the Issue
The problem was traced to the full ground stop to an IT issue with its ATC service provider.
Flyers continue to be advised to check the status of their trip before departing to the hub as residual delays are managed.
