In “It’s a Deal”, a look back discloses that fan-favorite personality Alastor the Radio Demon was a serial killer in his mortal days. Knowing full well he was destined for Hell, he established communication with the afterlife beforehand to secure a powerful role in Hell. The charismatic leader, who leads Hell’s cannibal community, promised Alastor he would become “the most powerful Sinner in Hell” in exchange for his eternal spirit.
This prompts an important query: How is Rosie sufficiently strong to elevate Alastor above all other Demonic Sinners?
“The agreement between Rosie and Alastor is the initial building block in a larger narrative that involves a great deal, leading into season 3,” the showrunner explains. “Clearly that is an excellent question: How is she so strong? The solution might be various factors, but the revelation is in season 3. I am thrilled for people to witness it.”
There’s no telling how long the audience will have to remain for Hazbin Hotel’s next season. The production companies have green-lit the third and fourth seasons, but the showrunner frequently notes that animated production is a time-consuming endeavor, and subsequent seasons have no release dates yet. Still, she states holding off on those details is a crucial aspect of maintaining season 2’s attention in the right places.
“The challenge of any kind of deal with infernal beings, or stories that have enigmas, is providing people just enough information to be like, Something's up here, and then revealing that as we go, and allowing that be satisfying,” she says. “So I'm very excited.”
Mysteries Resolved in Season 3
The creator promises that season 3 will address the queries followers have been asking, such as why the cannibal leader ordered Alastor to vanish for a seven-year period, which weakened his influence in Hell.
“The entire seven-year span, and the deals these individuals are doing, and everything — it contributes to a bigger narrative,” she says.
In the meantime, the Rosie/Alastor backstory episode provides a further look into how the main characters of Sinner Demons appeared as as mortals, the second after viewing another character's historical mortal appearance in the second episode. The creator explains that a lot of thought was put into the visual creation of these forms.
“The mortal forms of the characters hold so much weight,” she says. “They range from appearing really different from their demon form to seeming very similar. With Pentious, the first one we see, there was some internal discussion internally between going with something that represents the personality, versus selecting an option that's very time-period accurate. We opted for creating a design that just felt like it was him.”
She mentions the biggest debate over the mortal look of Pentious was his long hair: “We were like, ‘No one really had long hair like that in Victorian-era London.’ But at the same time, we believe the outline is extremely crucial, and we also just thought he looked good. We were like, ‘This just feels right.’ We sort of gave the excuse that he's a hermit, so he just let his hair grow out. So there's always a way. As we design the mortal forms of these personas […] it is a very enjoyable process to investigate and figure out. I'm excited for people to view additional of the appearances of the human versions.”
