France has delivered an immediate warning for its people in Mali to leave as soon as feasible, as Islamist insurgents persist their embargo of the country.

The Paris's external affairs department recommended citizens to exit using airline services while they remain available, and to avoid overland travel.

Fuel Crisis Worsens

A two-month-old petroleum embargo on the West African country, established by an al-Qaeda-affiliated faction has overturned everyday activities in the capital, the urban center, and other regions of the enclosed African nation - a one-time French territory.

France's declaration occurred alongside the maritime company - the leading international transport corporation - stating it was halting its activities in Mali, mentioning the restriction and declining stability.

Militant Operations

The militant faction the Islamist alliance has caused the obstruction by assaulting tankers on major highways.

The country has limited sea access so every petroleum delivery are brought in by highway from adjacent countries such as Senegal and the coastal nation.

Global Reaction

Last month, the US embassy in Bamako announced that non-essential diplomatic staff and their families would evacuate Mali throughout the emergency.

It mentioned the petroleum interruptions had influenced the supply of electricity and had the "possibility of affecting" the "comprehensive stability environment" in "unpredictable ways".

Political Context

Mali is currently ruled by a military junta headed by the military leader, who initially took control in a government overthrow in the past decade.

The armed leadership had civilian backing when it gained authority, vowing to address the long-running security crisis triggered by a independence uprising in the north by nomadic populations, which was later co-opted by radical groups.

Global Involvement

The UN peacekeeping mission and French forces had been positioned in recent years to handle the escalating insurgency.

Both have left since the armed leadership gained power, and the military government has hired Russian mercenaries to combat the instability.

Nonetheless, the Islamist rebellion has endured and significant areas of the northern and eastern territories of the nation continue beyond state authority.
