Micky van de Ven found the net on two occasions as Spurs extended their unbeaten run in away games in the Premier League and delivered the Toffees their first defeat at their new home.

The Toffees were undefeated in their last five matches at their new ground at the dockside location, having departed Goodison Park behind after more than a century at the conclusion of the previous campaign.

But Tottenham's leader the Dutchman struck twice from set-pieces in the first half to place their strong form at risk, and they were unable to turn it around before the midfielder - assisted by ex-Everton forward Richarlison - nodded in a third to put the game to bed.

Jake O'Brien thought he had levelled the scores five minutes after the defender's opener, glancing a bullet header past Guglielmo Vicario from an set-piece.

The Portuguese striker, meanwhile, failed to convert a handful of chances, while the Italian goalkeeper made a succession of excellent saves to ensure the London club went five away games unbeaten in the Premier League.

But the video assistant referee intervened, advising the match official to check the goal on the pitchside monitor and the referee ruled that the winger and the attacker were in offside positions and had impeded with the Tottenham goalkeeper.

This victory elevates Thomas Frank's team up to third in the Premier League, five points off north London rivals and leaders Arsenal.

Everton stay 14th and sit six points clear of the drop zone.

Tottenham analysis: Van de Ven excels in role at both ends of pitch

Following a drab midweek display in the European competition against the French side, where they mustered a mere attempts on goal, the manager opted for the French striker up front instead of ex-Everton forward the Brazilian.

The new arrival was failed to make much of an impact before being substituted for the substitute after 60 minutes on the pitch, but it emerged he wasn't needed in the final outcome.

Centre-back the Dutchman transformed into an offensive threat to be reckoned with.

Spurs' opening strike came from a cleverly executed set-piece play, with Rodrigo Bentancur directing the ball toward the face of goal for an free the defender to head home.

And the captain - stepping up as captain in the Argentine's absence - notched his next goal in added time as he rose above the England keeper to nod in.

The Dutchman was just as outstanding in defensive duties, partnering well with Kevin Danso as the duo handled superbly with the 34 crosses thrown their way by the opposition.

The club's new home had been a happy hunting ground, but it seems the novelty may have faded slightly and supporters flocked to the exits after the midfielder's final goal for Tottenham.

The end in the team's winning streak at home won't be a major concern for David Moyes, but their attacking woes are.

Beto and the other striker - the Everton's two recognised strikers - had netted just a single goal between them before Sunday's outing.

And they were failed to contribute to that miserable record on a damp and dreary evening on in Liverpool.

Beto's form was summed up when he opted to bicycle-kick a golden opportunity from close range, despite having space and opportunity to readjust for a more conventional shot that would have tested Vicario.

Barry, too, was unable to make an impact after replacing the starter in the second half.

It wasn't for a lack of opportunity. Most of Everton's attacks came through the winger and the forward, who relentlessly delivered threatening balls into the Tottenham box.
